Most of us love summertime and wish it could last forever. Warm nights and beautiful sunny days, time spent on the beach, and lots of unforgettable moments… While we can still enjoy those times a little bit longer, September is a good time to start thinking about updating your style and adding some warmer items to your wardrobe. The good news is that you can still use your summer pieces to create interesting fall looks.
To make shopping easier for you, we came up with some useful tips and tricks how to update your wardrobe and transition your summer outfits into fall.
All you need to do is invest in a couple of must-have items and combine them with clothes that you already have in your closet. Enjoy our fashion guide and create unique, stylish looks this season!
Colourful Tights

One of the easiest ways to transition your summer wardrobe into fall: invest in a pair of tights the you can use with your skirts and dresses to stay warm.

Colourful tights will also add some extra chic to your outfits. Recommended colours: cream, light grey, fuchsia, violet, classic black, geometric patterns.
Stylish tights can also be used in winter, so make sure you invest in a lot of colours to match them with your coats and jackets. Get inspired by the picture above!
Maxi Dress

September and October are great months to wear your maxi dresses. You can choose Etro's bohemian style (as in the picture above), Taller Marmo's bright fuchsia or go for darker colours such as teal, dark blue, brown or classic black. Animal print is still very popular this season.
Styling tip: Wear your maxi dress with an elegant belt and combine it with long boots.
Teddy Bear Coat
The easiest way to look stylish and stay warm at the same time is to invest in a statement coat. Coats are very versatile this season and there is no right or wrong item that you can choose. You can still wear your summer wardrobe underneath or sport a fashionable sweater.

"Inspired by mod fashion and art, this teddy coat is a great choice for battling winter's cold in style. It is designed in an oversized cocoon fit that is ideal to wear over chunky knits. Layer this coat over anything, from slip dresses to tailored trousers." - Source: Wolf & Badger
We love teddy bear coats and jackets! They are super cute and adorable, easy to wear, and they will keep you warm during chilly fall nights.
Light blue coat (as the one by PAISIE, a London-based womenswear brand founded in 2010 by Central St Martins alumni Kate and Vicky; shown above) will look great with your print maxi dress and ankle boots in cream, beige or black. You can also choose to go all blue and style it with a vintage dress in the same colour.
Styling Tip: Your summer dresses can be used as fall outfits as long as you choose those having darker colours and thicker fabrics, and combined them with suitable accessories.
Simple Blazer

What could be more comfortable and feminine than wearing a blazer with an elegant dress? Or how about going for a more relaxed style and pairing it up with your favourite pair of jeans and comfortable sneakers?
While wearing a blazer with a dress can seem very traditional and unimaginative, it is actually a great, must-have combo that you should always have in your wardrobe. This season, try wearing a cropped blazer with long skirt or dress or go for a sexy, minimalist look as in the picture below.
Depending on your personal style and your figure as well (keep in mind that not every combination is suitable for every body type!) you can choose something that you love and you feel comfortable wearing. As always, the best way to find out is to try various outfits and combos in front of your mirror or ask your best friend for a piece of styling advice.

Accessories
Handbags will be getting very creative in Fall/Winter 2022. One of the best ways to bring some colour and style into your fall wardrobe (that usually features darker colours) is by incorporating bright, unique accessories. This season, try sporting a cute mini bag in pink (pictured below) or a stylish baguette bag if you prefer a slightly larger style to carry all your necessities.

"As iPhones get bigger, sneakers get chunkier, and earrings get wider, handbags are getting smaller. When Simon Porte, the designer behind Jacquemus, first introduced the ‘Le Chiquito’ bag, they were an anomaly, only two models in his Fall 2017 Ready-to-Wear collection were holding tiny bags. And yet, the tiny bag made an outsize impression." - Source: fashionmagazine.com
When it comes to other accessories, we really liked gold gloves that could be seen at Carlos Gil show in Lisbon (pictured below). They would look great with black, blue or pink coat as well.

Stylish Boots
What could be better for the early fall season than a pair of chic boots? We are truly obsessed with the ones presented by Carlos Gil during Lisboa Fashion Week in March 2022 (pictured below). How do you like this look ?
Short or long, stylish boots are one of out favourite items to invest in when the weather starts getting colder. This season the most popular colours include cream, light beige, violet, and timeless black.

"Chunky, high-heeled boots always take the front seat and this year is no different. From ankle-length to over the knee, these platform high heel boots are available in multiple sizes and colours. There are multiple ways you can wear this footwear. Accentuate your look by pairing these bold boots with a trench coat, mini dress, or a midi skirt," says our fashion contributor, James, in his Fashion Accessory Trends in 2022 article.
All About Trends
Some of the dominating trends this season will be: High Shine / Disco Fashion / Party People, 90s Minimalism / Low-key Luxury, Pretty In Pink / Barbie, Streetwear / Slick Sportwear, Bohemian Fashion, Get Creative / Fashion As Art, Animal Kingdom, Goth Aesthetic / All-black Everything, Deconstructed Staples, Heavy-duty Leather, Catsuits, Extra Outerwear / Swiss Alps, Reimagined Bomber Jackets, Floor-sweeping Silhouettes, Translucent Fabrics.
Styling tip: Proportions are getting wider and even more oversize for fall. It’s time to get bold and take up space! Invest in a couple of pieces packed with volume (even in a form of statement sleeves) to stay up-to-date with the current look.

When it comes to a night-out look, "Whatever you wear on your next night out, make sure it’s short, sexy and covered in sequins, " says Elle Canada.

"The overarching mood of autumn/winter 2022's fashion trends can be summed up in one word: Nostalgia. Now, nostalgia comes in many different forms depending on your age, experiences and interests. Whatever you might associate with happier, simpler times has likely been translated to the runways for the upcoming season because the creative collectives in New York, London, Milan and Paris have all been feeling that desire for a better life." - Source: Who What Wear
Hip-hop Influence

It won't be an overstatement to say that hip-hop culture took the fashion industry by storm. Since its very beginning, it has transformed fashion in countless ways through customising, sampling, and remixing what was there before as well as inventing totally new looks.
From cuban chains and layered necklaces to personalised hoop earrings, hip-hop fashion is all about self-expression, individuality, confidence, attitude, and cool, relaxed vibe at the same time. It features blown-up silhouettes, baggy fits, and a lot of bling.

When it comes to accessories and jewellery, the focus is on big, bold and courageous designs (many rappers came from humble beginnings – buying loud jewellery was like obtaining a symbol of success and making a strong personal statement). Think: gold watches, massive rings, pendants, chains, belt buckles, earrings, teeth grillz, and more. With hip-hop jewellery, the sky is the limit.

Hip-hop continues to inspire, influence, and shape mainstream fashion houses and independent designers around the world. Fall/Winter 2022 season is no different so make sure you pay a lot of attention to this trend if you want to keep your look up-to-date.
New Colour Palette

Many designers introduces exciting new colours for the Fall 2022 season. Have a look at some gorgeous outfits above. Dries Van Noten's coat is a prime example of the meeting point between minimalism and maximalism. (And yes, animal print is still in this season).
Recommended colours to add to your wardrobe: royal purple, fuchsia, bright red, baby pink, cerulean blue, teal, Kelly green, and classic beige + white combination (as seen at Carlos Gil show in Lisbon; pictured below).

Make sure your fall colour palette is different then the one you used to wear during summer. You don’t need to wear only dark colours though; make sure your fall look is bright and vibrant as well!

Wear Layers
If you want to stay warm and look fashionable at the same time, layering up is one of the best things you can do.
Don't know where to start? Invest in a couple of long sleeve tops, shirts, and sweaters. Make sure they all feature similar colour palette, for example: light blue, darker blue, cream, and beige. This way your look will be neat and well-put-together.

One of the best fall/winter tactics is wearing many layers of clothing. This way you will not only stay warm (go for thicker fabrics once it gets colder), but it will also be easy to change your look and combine various pieces together. You can have a fresh outfit every single day by simply adding a new blazer or wearing an oversized scarf in a totally different colour. It’s a simple and fun way to make your wardrobe more versatile without spending a lot of money for brand new items.
