As with so many seemingly simple things, the answer is more complicated than a simple yes or no would allow. Hiring a limo is definitely not something that just anyone can do on a whim – but they are perhaps not as expensive as you fear they might be. Depending, of course, on what you rate as 'expensive' – people on lower incomes will hope for rock bottom prices, while the well-to-do might take limo hire charges in their stride. Let us take a look in a bit more detail.
Compared to a Regular Hire Car: Yes
Normal hire cars usually cost around $50 per day, and in comparison to these, limos are a good deal more expensive. Limos – the smallest holding up to eight people, and usually averaging about ten – can cost as much as $100 per hour. Limos are not usually booked for long stretches of time, as most events run to two or three hours, so having the limo for three to four hours is enough to collect and return the lucky limo riders.
Compared to a Luxury Hire Car: No
If your party is small, you might think that choosing to hire a luxury car for the day will be a cheaper option, and give you more time with your chosen vehicle – which you will be able to drive yourself. However, supercars, such as Lamborghinis and Ferraris can run up to $2,000 per day in rental fees, plus you will need to make good on any damage the car suffers, top up the fuel and oil, and ensure that the car is returned in like-new condition in order to get your whole (rather large) deposit back. Rolls Royces are similarly priced, and even a more 'modest' luxury car like the latest Jaguar will set you back a hefty $700 per day.
The Nitty Gritty
The cost of a limo for a three or four hour block will cost you about $300 to $400, which might seem expensive until you factor in the driver who comes with the car, transports you safely to and from your destinations, and is guaranteed to be an excellent driver, trained in defensive driving and dedicated to giving you the best possible limo service that they can.

When you are trying to choose which luxury transport you want to go with, think about whether you want to be the person responsible for getting to the right place on time, or if you would prefer that someone else carry that burden for you. Also think about the event: proms, weddings, birthday celebrations and boozy graduation nights all go much more smoothly with a chauffeured limo waiting to get you from A to B and then home to C!
Something to Think About
If your party is a large one, you could opt for a party bus rather than a limo. These are slightly more expensive than limos, but they can hold five times more guests, which makes the price per person so much cheaper in the long run. Limos are not a cheap service. But then, they are not for everyday occasions. Investing in a limo for a special night out can help to enhance the experience, making your memories even sweeter.
