We all had quite the year in 2020. Plans, travel, school, work and everything else was put on hold. We all deserve a break, but life goes on and the world keeps turning, ignoring your need for a bit of relaxation and rejuvenation. Luckily, there are a few things you can do to make your home an oasis, and paper yourself during what promises to be a long, hot, busy summer!
Invest in a Cosy Corner
2020 highlighted the need for everyone to have a place to rejuvenate and disconnect at home. With so much time at home, getting away to a cosy corner, or carving out an area of your yard dedicated to relaxation, could mean the difference between peace and a panic attack. When you are stressed, visit your happy place, and make it your own with plants, fans or cosy blankets to help keep you calm and at peace in your busy home.
Fill Your Home with Fresh Flowers
Fresh flowers will bring your home alive, and create a pop of living color that is inspiring and invigorating. Adding more life and beauty to your home may seem like a small thing, but is quite important, says Nancy Etcoff, Ph.D., of Massachusetts General Hospital and Harvard Medical School. “Other research has proven that flowers make people happy when they receive them,” she says. “What we didn’t know is that spending a few days with flowers in the home can affect a wide variety of feelings.”

Create Cool Face Masks
A bit of self-care, like taking time to apply a cooling face mask or mist, can provide instant rejuvenation. There are many face masks and mists on the market, but consider creating your own, using oatmeal or avocados. Just a few minutes a day relaxing with a cool face mask can boost your energy, and will also leave your face silky and vibrant, a great confidence booster.
Date night at home
We might think we are spending too much time with our partners, stuck working or studying from home, meaning it’s critical that you carve out time for romance and connection. Plan a date night where you and your partner cook together, or order your favourite food for delivery. Set up a special area in the house for your date, and make it as special as possible for your significant other. Being aware of the needs of your family is one of the most important elements of keeping a healthy and happy home in these unprecedented times.
Cooking Session
We’ve all eaten our fill of take-out at this point, and if you can’t quite find the right wing spot or salad, it’s time to look to your own kitchen. Try out recipes that inspire you! Changing your diet can sometimes result in feelings of malaise, nausea and even flu-like, sibo die off symptoms. Never fear! This is often your body's way of fighting off endotoxins. Stick to your healthy diet! Enhancing your cooking abilities will create an outlet for a more healthy and fulfilled lifestyle, and will give you a true sense of accomplishment when you find or create that recipe-of-a-lifetime that everyone asks for at family functions.

Take a yoga class
Taking a yoga class online can be a great place to feel healthier and connect with your local community, before everything opens back up. The world-renowned Mayo Clinic says that yoga is a huge help reducing stress or anxiety. If you don’t feel comfortable attending a class, or can’t find the right time for a quiet moment at home, look up a yoga video online and follow along. It’s important to create an area of your home where you can have uninterrupted time to stretch and meditate during your yoga class.
Find time to exercise
Exercise has always been important to maintaining excellent health and longevity, but never more so than after a long period of inactivity. Make time to exercise in your home, neighbourhood or at a local gym. Carve out a period of your day devoted to exercise and stick with it – no matter what! Some people are turning an extra room in their home into a home gym, but a quick jog, walk or back-yard workout routine costs nothing, and will make you feel great about your body.

Before the pandemic, self-care looked far different. Massages, nail appointments, the gym and activities were easier to find and enjoy. It’s important to focus on your physical and mental health now, more than ever – and finding the time to pamper yourself will keep you energized, happier and ready to take on the world when it finally returns to normal!
