You probably heard it many times before, but today we are going to talk about the importance of drinking water and staying hydrated. This simple, yet often neglected activity is crucial for our optimum health and wellbeing.

Let'a have a look at some interesting facts below:

  • Up to 60% of the human adult body is made up of water.
  • Many people do not consume enough fluids each day.
  • On average, an adult male needs about 3 litres per day and an adult female needs about 2.2 litres per day. These numbers may vary depending on your weight, overall health, and lifestyle. There is no set amount of water that is right for everyone.
  • All the cells and organs of the body need water to function properly.
  • Drinking plain water is the best choice because it is free of sugars, sweeteners, and other additives. (Many herbal teas are good alternatives to water.)
  • Limiting intake of salty foods can also reduce a person’s risk of dehydration.

  • Water regulates our internal body temperature by sweating and respiration.
  • When dehydrated, your skin becomes more vulnerable to wrinkling and skin disorders.
  • Dehydration affects brain structure and function. It can lead to problems with thinking and reasoning.
  • Long-term dehydration can reduce the joints’ shock-absorbing ability, leading to pain.
  • Blood is more than 90% water. A lack of water can cause blood to become thicker, increasing blood pressure.
  • Insufficient water intake can lead to kidney stones and other serious health problems.

Healthy Diet

Of course not all of the water that we need daily has to come from drinking liquids, as some of this water is included in the food we consume. Your diet should always contain enough fruits and vegetables as eating certain foods will help you maintain proper hydration levels and provide a variety of nutrients as well. Some of the best options to consider:

  • Cucumber
  • Lettuce
  • Celery
  • Tomatoes
  • Zucchini
  • Watermelon
  • Spinach
  • Strawberries
  • Broccoli
  • Peaches
  • Carrots
  • Oranges
  • Pineapple
  • Apples
