It’s been a tough year, no doubt. And now we’re smack in the middle of a hard winter. We could all use a pick-me-up, something to liven things up a bit and remind us that warm weather and better days are right around the corner.
And if you’re one of those looking for a morale boost, there’s probably no better way than giving yourself a style reset — a new you for a new year. But how do you do it without spending a fortune?
The good news is, it’s not hard! All it takes is a bit of know-how to select the perfect accessories and a dash of creativity to repurpose the little gems that are already in your closet. We’ll show you how.
The Eyes Have It
One of the best ways to change up your style doesn’t involve apparel at all. Nope. If the eyes are the windows to the soul, they’re also key to your fashion refresh. We all know how important it is to protect our eyes from ultraviolet light (UV) with UVA and UVB-blocking sunglasses, even in winter, when UV exposure can be as great, if not greater, than in summer.
But why not pull a twofer and score the perfect pair of shades not only to protect your eyes but to make just the right fashion statement, the shades that are wonderfully, impeccably, irrefutably you. So go bold. Opt for chunky, square frames a vivid red or sleek black.
And if you really want to up your eyewear game, then why not go all in and invest in colored contact lenses. When it comes to making a dramatic change in your look without going under the knife, there’s nothing better. Best of all, you don’t even have to need prescription lenses! Even if you have perfect vision, you can still request custom fit, doctor-approved colored contacts from your eye care provider.

Mix It Up
One of the best ways to spruce up your style without spending your way to the poorhouse is to shop your closet and experiment with exciting and unexpected new combinations. Remember the trend of mixing stripes and florals? Well, even if you’re over that fad by now, there’s at least one great takeaway: surprising and even once forbidden combos can end up looking darn good.
So spend a day playing dress-up in your closet and have fun with it. Play with combinations of patterns and textures you might never have dared before. Team a classy blazer you usually reserve only for work with a hipster t-shirt you wouldn’t be caught dead wearing to the office. Pair a favorite romantic sundress with a chunky cardigan and a pair of Chuck Taylors.

And don’t forget to try shaking up your color combos as well. Break the rules and see what works. Team red with pink, black with navy. Try ensembles in different shades of the same hue. You’ll probably be surprised at what tones and tints work well together!
If you’re not quite ready to go out into the world with your bold new combos, start small. Tie a short scarf around your wrist to add a splash of color and give a new twist to the tired old bangle. Add a funky belt to a long cardigan or duster for a modern flare. Or swap out your standard pumps or ballet flats for some to-die-for boots to transform business casual into a true fashion statement.

The Queen’s Jewels
There’s nothing like the flash of precious metal or the sparkle of a gemstone to make you feel lighter and brighter, the bedecked and bejeweled center of attention.
But you don’t have to go trotting around in your grandmother’s precious heirlooms to dazzle with your accessories. If you’re looking for a fashion reset, then opting for customized pieces used in creative ways is an even better idea. Consider, for instance, the art of necklace layering. Not only does this make your style pop, but it also is a perfect way to tell the unique story of you, especially if you choose a customized necklace that reflects your unique personality. From charms to coins to flowers and birthstones, you can design bespoke layered necklaces that tell the whole world who you are, where you’ve been, and where you’re going.
But don’t just stop there. Remember that no rule says you have to wear a necklace on your neck or an earring in your ear. Have a long beaded or chain necklace that you adore, why not give it new life by wearing it as a bracelet, a belt, or even as an ornament on a humdrum purse or basic skirt?
The same goes for if you have an earring, for instance, that you can’t find the mate to but you just can’t bear to give up. Pin it to a pocketbook, a shoe, even the cuff of your sweater. This is a great option, for instance, if you’re not able to wear jewelry at work. If that’s the case, remember you have lots of options for adding a bit of dazzle — at your next manicure, ask your technician to add a simple rhinestone to each nail. Or try a small cosmetic rhinestone applique at the outer corner of each eye.

Hair Today
As you break out of your style rut, don’t forget that your hair can be your best style accessory! So go for a sparkly headband or bejeweled hair clips and ties. You might even play around with clip-in extensions and falls. And if you really want to play with your look, why not invest in a couple of high-quality human hair wigs in different styles and colors. From a fun platinum pixie to a cascading mane of sultry auburn, the sky’s the limit — and you don’t have to invest a king’s ransom to score gorgeous, natural-looking wigs you’ll fall in love with!
The key is just to use your imagination. Learn to see your old treasures in new ways. When you do that, your style will be forever young, forever exciting, and always deliciously, gloriously you!

The Takeaway
Let’s face it. We could all use a bit of self-care right about now. And there’s no better way than to give your style a do-over. Best of all, you don’t have to break the bank or start from scratch. With a bit of creativity, you can reimagine your entire wardrobe and step into a vibrant new fashionable you!
