Twenty plus years have passed since Sex and the City first aired, but its characters and their famous lines remain relevant to this day. All four ladies had some pretty #relatable quotes, but the show’s protagonist, Carrie Bradshaw, never ceased to amaze us when it came to her wit and humor, whether the topic was love, friendships, or life in general. That’s why in this article, we’re paying homage to NYC’s favorite columnist by sharing her best pieces of advice.

Dare to be yourself

From the moment the show first aired, we had the opportunity to see Carrie in numerous editions style-wise. With a rocking body and a designer closet every woman would envy her for, Carrie was also a shoe lover who popularized Manolo Blahniks and Christian Louboutins. However, regardless of all the expensive clothes and shoes she wore, it was her daring, over-the-top style choices and her authenticity that made her so iconic.

If you were to rewatch SATC episodes, you’d see that there were so many outfits that Carrie wore that had a heavy influence on fashion trends. Whether you needed some New Year Eve fashion inspiration or a date night outfit ideas, Carrie’s outfits were pretty much a fashion goldmine. This just goes to show that Carrie’s sense of style, her impeccable eye for fashion, and the confidence she wore her outfits with are the reasons why she became a fashion icon we all love. And no matter how crazy her outfits were sometimes, her attitude would make anything look trendy and chic, proving that the most beautiful thing you can wear is, indeed, confidence.

Variety really is the spice of life

Carrie was equally as creative with her hairstyles as she was with her outfits. From a strawberry red bob she sported in the pilot episode to her signature frizzy curls, Carrie inspired us to switch things up when we feel like it. She would often change hairstyles for various events, like the romantic hairstyle she rocked when she first met the Russian, an artist with whom she’d later fall head over heels in love. Was it his accent, his artistic soul, or irresistible charm that swept Carrie off her feet? We’ll never know.

But one thing’s for sure – Carrie showed us that variety, in fact, is the spice of life and that you should always strive to try something new, be it dyeing your hair in a gorgeous new hue, trying out beautiful Russian hair weaves to channel your inner Carrie Bradshaw when she used to date the Russian, or boldly rocking a no-time-to-properly-style hairstyle out in public. Honestly, we all need to thank Carrie for making the last one socially acceptable, just saying’.

Friends can be our soulmates

If there is one thing that we can all clearly see from the way Carrie and her friends interact throughout the six seasons of the hit series, it’s that nothing can stand between their powerful friendship. Some of them had to deal with the challenges of divorce, some had to face prejudice at their workplace.

Some had to accept that their life was a constant mess, while others had to find the courage to face a potentially life-threatening disease. Despite all the things life threw at them, their friendship remained rock solid. When Carrie said, “Maybe our girlfriends are our soulmates and guys are just people to have fun with”, it really hit close to home for many of us, and showed us that some friendships are like diamonds – they are forever.

Fall in love with yourself first

Although she went through many heartbreaks and breakups, Carrie knew that no one can love her the way she loved herself. Essentially, she taught us that, no matter who we’re with, the most important thing is to be satisfied with ourselves before expecting others to be.

Self-love came first for this iconic character, and her lesson was that, no matter how many relationships you have, the one you have with yourself is the most significant one. And if you, by any chance, manage to find a person who can love you the way you love yourself, you can consider yourself fortunate. Ultimately, as long as you are happy with who you are and love yourself, you don’t really need anyone else to do that for you.

Sex and the City is an iconic TV show that’s still relatable to this day. Wise words of its protagonist Carrie continue to entertain and inspire women and men all around the world, and even though the show has ended a long time ago, there’s no reason not to go on a SATC binge and laugh at the adventures of our favorite New Yorkers.
