True Fashionista's Travel Guide to Singapore

Are you planning to visit South East Asia? Making Singapore your starting point is one of the best decisions you can do. This city is gorgeous, elegant, exciting and very safe, so you’re guaranteed to have an amazing time. However, if you want to look stylish and chic in Singapore, here’s a little guide for all of you fashionistas out there that will ensure you look your best on your adventures.

General fashion situation in the city

Singapore is a big cosmopolitan city where most people dress pretty mainstream. Younger generations dress more casually and older adults how work enjoy a more conservative approach to fashion. While the style varies according to age and lifestyle, Singaporeans dress in a classic yet fashionable way. Not many people on the street can be seen rocking something extremely bold, but that doesn’t mean you can’t make a statement. However, anything too out of the ordinary will attract attention and even get photographed!

Weather is tricky

Singapore is often described as a huge sauna, especially by foreigners who can be seen showered in sweat. While the weather is always hot and sunny, it’s not a very pleasant type of heat, but the situation is often extremely humid. It’s also known to rain a lot, especially during the wet monsoon season (December to January). So, don’t hesitate to pack plenty of light and airy t-shirts and tops and opt for light shorts for your legs. Fabrics like polyester, linen and silk are a great choice because they are light, breathable and moisture-wicking which will keep your skin try.

Reside in style

Being a true fashionista doesn’t stop at clothing! When choosing your accommodation, make sure to pick the right place that will match your lifestyle. Luckily, Singapore is a classy city and you can find luxurious hotel rooms with amazing suites and breathtaking views! These will fill your Instagram with beautiful photos and allow you to enjoy your stay in style. And the best thing that all of these deluxe rooms have air conditioning to keep you comfy and plenty of storage space for your precious clothes.

Look amazing at the beach

Take advantage of the hot and sunny weather and make sure to visit a beach or two (East Coast Beach is a must-visit destination for all tourists). So, make sure to bring your bathing suit. It’s best if you accompany your bikini or a stylish one-piece with a sarong which will keep you looking classy and elegant. Finish your beach look with a floppy hat, sunglasses and light sandals and you’ll be able to hit the bars and enjoy a cocktail right as you get out of the water!

Stay dry in the rain

Like mentioned above, Singapore is hit by monsoon rains from December to January, so you can expect a lot of rain during that time. In order to stay dry, make sure to pack an umbrella and a light waterproof shell. Your umbrella is a great accessory, but make sure to pay attention to its sturdiness because winds tend to be very strong! Rain jackets used to be very plain and boring, but today they come in all possible colors and styles, so pick something that matches your footwear so that you can look amazing in all weather.

Keep your feet stylish and dry

When deciding on your footwear, think waterproof! Covered sandals and a pair of stylish wellingtons will keep you looking amazing and allow you to stay dry. Pick a slight wedge for your footwear in order to stay away from puddles. It’s best to bring something darker and leave your pastels at home—your shoes are guaranteed to get dirty by the end of your trip. Stay away from soft fabrics and suede because they will probably be ready for garbage due to sudden showers. For the beach, you can grab flip-flops or sandals and you’ll need a pair of classic heels or ballet flats for dressy dinners and light evening walks.

Do some shopping

When you get tired of city exploration, you might want to grab a hold of some Singaporean fashion. Make sure to visit Orchard Road speckled with various stores. Paragon is a shopping mall with classic branded goods, but make sure to check out local designers in stores like Actually

If you pack and prepare like this, you can expect to have a wonderful time in Singapore and look amazing (and comfortable) while exploring your new favorite destination!
