STYLISH HOTELS - LISBON

A Step into History

Lisbon has been one of my favourite European cities for quite a while now. I visited the sunny Portuguese capital for the first time in March 2013 when I had a chance to attend ModaLisboa, one of the biggest events in Portuguese fashion, and get familiar with the local fashion scene.

Coming back after five years and seeing all the recent changes, new shops and restaurants, was definitely a great experience. Some things haven't changed though: the stunning architecture and never disappointing laid-back atmosphere which makes this city a perfect place for a relaxing city break.

Lisbon is one of those destinations that is recommended for almost everyone  friends, couples, families, solo travellers, and business people as well. With so many attractions spread across the city, everyone can find something suitable for their taste.

Travelling In Style

If you are looking for an extraordinary hotel experience, Corpo Santo Lisbon Historical Hotel is the place to be. Opened not that long ago (September 1, 2017), this five star property is going to not only meet, but exceed your expectations and make you want to return again and again.

"The Corpo Santo Historical Hotel was born from a desire to share the history of Lisbon and Portugal with its guests, both tourists and locals. Occupying an entire block of one of the most characteristic areas of the city, the hotel is a space where history, comfort and contemporary luxury come together in perfect harmony.

Nuno Leónidas’ team of architects, responsible for the exterior design, maintained the structure and original facade of the building. Every aspect of its location and environment, from the artifacts found during the construction, to the symbolic names of the area and its proximity to the River Tagus, was included in the creation of this unique hotel." - Corpo Santo Hotel

Corpo Santo Hotel has 77 rooms (including two suites) and five floors. Each floor is designed to take you on a journey through the history of Portuguese expansion in the world: Africa, Asia, Brazil, and Lisbon. Thanks to the building's Pombaline architecture, each guest room is different, which makes every stay unforgettable and unique.

It's All in the Details

Interior design of the rooms consists of a neutral colour palette: white, beige, light grey, and brown, which is not only elegant, but also encourages relaxation. Several wooden details create a home away from home atmosphere.

Traditional Portuguese tiles can be found as decorative elements next to the windows and also in the bathroom (which is predominantly white).

Fashion magazines, a flat-screen TV with satellite channels and Blu-ray player, Nespresso coffee machine, and a well-equipped minibar will make your stay pleasant and enjoyable.

"Inside, in line with its synergy of history and modernity, the hotel was decorated by design duo Branco sobre Branco. The result is a warm, minimalist atmosphere, a contemporary design with a few details from the past and a hand-painted mural in the hotel’s entrance, alluding to the city's history and its connection to the river." - Corpo Santo Hotel

Welcome to the Future

Smartly designed bathroom featuring colourful mood lighting accompanied by music was definitely one of the highlights of the room. Every shower and bath was a truly relaxing experience. (To see a short video from the bathroom, click here.)

"Each bathroom is equipped with a chromotherapy system, a treatment which, through the alternation of colours, establishes balance and harmony between mind, body and soul. Red stimulates, blue soothes, yellow brings joy and green is relaxing; enabling each guest to choose his or her state of mind." - Corpo Santo Hotel

Expect The Unexpected

Don't forget to visit the gym – you will be surprised what you will find in the hotel basement!

"The Corpo Santo Historical Hotel is located in an area full of history. Numerous forgotten ancestral artefacts were discovered during the hotel’s construction and its archeological centre, located in the basement of the hotel, offers periodic exhibitions of pieces collected during the dig, such as a ceramic set from the 18th century, 15th and 16th century English pipes and the 32 meters long, 14th century, King Ferdinand period wall." - Corpo Santo Hotel

Let's Get Spoiled

Porter, hotel's restaurant located on the ground floor and popular with non-guests as well, serves mouth-watering food which can be also ordered directly to your room.

During my 3 nights stay at Corpo Santo Hotel, I tried several dishes from the restaurant and I was always pleasantly surprised with the quality of the food and also with its excellent presentation.

DID YOU KNOW?

There is a popcorn machine available to all guests in the lobby and very soon you will be able to try delicious pancakes too!

Location

Corpo Santo Hotel is situated in the historical quarter of the Cais do Sodré, an area known for its bustling daytime activities and vibrant nightlife.

Dona Maria II National Theatre is 800 m from Corpo Santo Lisbon Historical Hotel, while Bairro Alto is 800 m from the property. Lisbon Humberto Delgado Airport is 7 km away.

"For centuries Corpo Santo square, where the hotel stands, was a gathering place for fishermen and a shipyard. Its name comes from the “Nossa Senhora da Graça” hermitage, built on the square in the 15th century, which had an image of Saint Pedro Gonçalves, or "Corpo Santo", which was deemed to be miraculous and was worshiped by fishermen." - Corpo Santo Hotel

    1. I think it's always better to book in advance :) You can select the room you want and be sure that everything goes according to your plan. Many popular hotels are full during the tourist season or important events / conferences happening in the city. Enjoy your stay!
