Pastel Parade
How to Wear Pastels for Fall

Florals for spring? Ground-breaking, as Miranda Priestly (played by Meryl Streep) snarkily remarked in the 2006 movie The Devil Wears Prada. But pastels for fall? Bet you didn't think of that one.
Fall/Winter usually call to mind cosy knits in dark solid colours and neutrals, but the fashion crowd is straying away from the conventional colour palette this time. Earthy colours? So 2012. This year sees the prevalence of soft, tranquil shades normally associated with spring.

We're in love with both of Pantone's Colours of the Year, Rose Quartz and Serenity, so we were pleasantly surprised to find both shades heavily featured by street style bloggers and the fashion crowd.
Here are some ways you can take on the pastel trend for the turn of the weather:
1. Pair with combat boots
Pastels too saccharine for you? Add some tough-girl edge to your look with combat boots and leather leggings. The key is to look nonchalant, not overly cute. So experiment with textures for a balanced combination of edgy-girly.

2. Pull Together Separates
Hilary Clinton may have made pantsuits her thing, but you can also rework her signature look into something that is entirely you. With pastel separates such as a blazer and trousers, your look is office-appropriate. But if you're going for an "all business up front and party underneath" outfit, a brassiere top instantly transforms your look evening-ready.

3. Try a Ground-Scraping Maxi Skirt
Paired with wedge heels, a floral maxi skirt may seem like it belongs in a spring/summer lookbook. But for fall/winter, you can up the drama with wine-coloured lips or bronze eye shadow, and swap the white background for a black or burgundy one.

4. Embrace the Lady in You
Since you're already in pastel, why not go all out and embrace your femininity in dainty stiletto heels, and sling on a cute purse while you're at it? Paired with loose waves and cool-girl tinted sunglasses, a belted pastel dress is perfect for a lunch date.

5. Go Sports-Luxe
It Model Gigi Hadid shows you how to make pastels look sporty: simply pull on a baseball cap, and throw together casual-cool separates like white skinnies (the perfect canvas for pastels) and leopard-print brogues. For an extra sporty touch, sneakers work for day.

6. Go Mad for Metallics
While her BFF above is all about athleisure, Kendall Jenner's taste are slightly more dramatic. Regularly seen in leather leggings and boots, she dials up her look this time with pastel metallics. For a night out in town, some shimmer to your look will make you the centre of attention. Finish off with pointy ankle boots (equally shimmery) and smoky-eye makeup for extra flair.
