STYLING TIPS

Six Ways
You Can Make Suits Your Style Staple

Mention suits and what comes to mind are probably board meetings and painfully formal settings. But suits don't have to be associated with just work. A well-tailored suit is a quick and easy way to elevate your look in a snap, taking you into boss mode. What started out as a menswear item has become a wardrobe staple for many women, and for good reason: a suit can be a powerful fashion statement.

Remember how Princess Diana made suits her Thing? She always managed to strike a perfect balance between feminine grace and masculine strength. Michelle Obama also displays elegance and class when she wears suits by accentuating them with statement jewellery.

Structured fabrics and an exquisite stitch are what make a suit stand out from the crowd. Here are some ways you can suit up and look smart even for off-duty days:

1. Layer Over a Crisp White Shirt

You can't go wrong with a white shirt. To soften the look, add feminine details like ruffles, lace, a high collar, or bell sleeves. Then, tote a statement handbag and you'll be turning heads on the streets and in the office!

2. Add a Pop of Colour

If you want to be noticed for your bold fashion sense, then bright colours are the way to go. Set yourself apart from the crowd and pick a hue that flatters your skin tone - notice how Coco Rocha's jacket brings out her apricot blush? To finish off the clean, sharp look, slip into dramatic boots that complement your jacket and put your best foot forward!

3. Bring Out Your Curves in a Pencil Skirt

A pencil skirt can be your boon or bane. Pick one that skims your waist and hips instead of hugs it and you will be spared from flaunting an unflattering silhouette. Keep the look clean with solid colours (busy prints at the bottom will direct more attention to your lower body, highlighting your hips and waist - not ideal particularly if you are pear-shaped) and streamlined with strong fabrics like tweed.

4. Match with Tailored Trousers

Slim-cut pants are a go-to piece in any lady’s closet. Match yours with your suit and embrace monochrome - nudes and neutrals for a conservative look, or an all-out eye-catching hue if you're feeling bold! And don't be afraid to splurge on a quality set of pants and suit. Trust us - these classic pieces are a worthwhile investment.

5. Go Casual

Who said suits are only fit for the workplace? Dress down your jacket with a pair of ripped boyfriend jeans and sneakers, and you'll have an OOTD perfect for hitting the town on a weekend. For a less formal look, add extra details like rolled-up sleeves and a messy fishtail braid. You can also spruce up your outfit with bright colours or patterns like stripes and polka dots!

6. Wear it Oversized

An oversized suit is versatile enough to work for a formal event and a casual coffee date. Toss on a slouchy jacket that is equal parts lady boss and street style star, and amp up the look with round sunglasses for some cool-girl red!
