African Fashion Week Toronto (#AFWT2016) presented by the Fashion Ready Foundation Celebrates its 4th year inside Design Exchange


TORONTO, ON  – Join us as we celebrate fashion, style, and diversity at the fourth edition of one of Toronto's most anticipated fashion events, African Fashion Week Toronto (AFWT) presented by the Fashion Ready Foundation (FRF). In the last four years, the AFWT platform has helped to support Toronto’s unique and diverse cultural heritage whilst contributing to the fashion and tourism market in Canada and abroad.

#AFWT2016 will commence Thursday, August 18th with their annual red carpet Opening Soiree, featuring live entertainment by local DJ’s and performances by the Ascension Groove Band inside the Hard Rock CafĂ© (279 Yonge St., Toronto) starting at 7:00pm.


African Fashion Week Toronto will continue with 3 days of diverse fashion festivities featuring:

  • Student Designer Competition (Friday, Aug. 19th)
  • 3 High Fashion Runway Showcases (Saturday, Aug. 20th)
  • Fashion Talk & African Fashion Industry Awards (Sunday, Aug. 21st)
  • Networking platforms & after parties (Aug. 18th – Aug. 21st)

Friday

On Friday, August 19th inside the Design Exchange (234 Bay St., Toronto) #AFWT2016 will feature a series of local student designers showcasing their debut fashion lines at the Student Designer Competition starting at 7:00pm.


Saturday

On Saturday, August 20th the runways will be filled with 3 fashion showcases at 1:00pm, 4:00pm, and 7:00pm by the best African inspired designers from Canada and around the world. Montreal based haute couture designer and this year’s Fashion Trailblazer Award Recipient, Helmer Joseph, will debut a stellar line up of fashion pieces from his latest collection.

Sunday

On Sunday, August 21st they will be introducing Fashion Talk a television discussion analyzing “The Business of Fashion” with a live studio audience sponsored & hosted by International Journalist & Media Consultant, Dr. Jefferson Sackey. They will continue to celebrate achievements in the African fashion industry by awarding various fashion contributors at the 3rd annual African Fashion Industry Awards (AFIA) including Herieth Paul (Maybelline New York Global Spokesperson) with the Model Excellence Award.

MuchMusic Video Awards winning alumnus and Juno nominated R&B/Soul recording artist Ray Robinson will be the headlining performer this year. The awards ceremony closes off with a spectacular runway showcase by the “King of Couture” & Celebrity Designer Adebayo Jones. Red carpet & cocktails start at 5:00pm and the award ceremony starts at 6:00pm.
