These days, it's all about the brand.
Every model worth her salt has something unique to offer that makes her stand out from the crowd and leave an impression in people's minds. Be it the ability to pose HTT (that's head-to-toe in model-speak), a powerful gaze or a commanding runway strut, the stronger your USP the more memorable your brand.
What makes the greats great? A standout trait or look that makes them impossible to ignore or forget. Jane Birkin had her signature effortless style and raw, natural beauty. Naomi Campbell is notable for her confident stride down the runway. And the first thing that comes to mind when someone mentions Kate Moss is her haunting, heavy-lidded gaze.

As far as supermodels go, there are the crowd favourites like Jane Birkin, Gisele Bundchen, and Elle Macpherson, and the fresh crop of social-savvy millenial models like Gigi Hadid, Kendall Jenner and Karlie Kloss. But here are five more models with note-worthy cred that makes them one-of-a-kind:
1. Coco Rocha - Queen of the Pose
Tyra Banks gave this Canadian high-fashion model this nickname, in fact. How impressive is she as a model? She can legit do 50 unique poses in 30 seconds without breaking a sweat, and has even published a book titled Study of Poses to share her tips.
The chameleon model was also a guest judge on America's Next Top Model and The Face, where she mentored aspiring models in the ways of the modelling biz. With endorsements for Zac Posen, Lanvin, Balenciaga, Dolce & Gabbana, Dior and more, it's little wonder that this mother of one (have you seen her ahhh-dorable chub, Ioni Conran? Check out her Instagram feed (@cocorocha) and try not to die of the cuteness!) is the highest-paid model for 2016.

2. Liu Wen - Street Style Maestro
Chinese model Liu Wen is not only known for being the face of several high-profile brands like Ralph Lauren, Chanel, and Louis Vuitton, as well as commercial brands like H&M and Esprit, she is also the first ever East Asian model to walk the annual Victoria's Secret Fashion Show, front beauty giant Estée Lauder, and make Forbes magazine's annual list of highest-paid models.
When she's not on smizing on set with her killer cheekbones and fierce gaze, the dimpled beauty is wowing us with her stunning photos of sunsets and personal street style on Instagram (@liuwenlw). Her effortless, tomboy-chic OOTDs are #goals, but what makes her immensely likeable is her down-to-earth, bashful and unassuming personality, which we got a glimpse of in a Chinese dating reality TV show, where she was paired with South Korean singer Choi Siwon.

3. Tao Okamoto - Silver Screen Model
This Japanese model/actress Tao Okamoto (@taookamoto) has quickly risen the ranks of high-profile models to become one of the top East Asian models to watch. Having modelled since she was 14, she has modelled for major houses like Chanel, Ralph Lauren, and Alexander Wang, and frequently graces the cover of Vogue Japan (she even had a special issue dedicated to her!).
If you're not into haute couture, then maybe you'll remember her instead from her film roles in comic-book movies The Wolverine (2013) and Batman vs Superman (2016). Her growth as an actress even brought Jim Mangold, the director of The Wolverine, to tears. Potential field to branch out towards in the future? We're staying tuned.

4. Sun Fei Fei - Oriental Beauty
Chanel cover girl Sun Fei Fei has the Oriental look that many designers love. With her sculpted cheekbones, pouty lips and mono-lidded eyes, Sun's face is the perfect balance of strength and grace, which was why brands like Giorgio Armani, Louis Vuitton, Calvin Klein, DKNY, and Valentino courted her for their campaigns, and Karl Lagerfeld specially chose her for his Paris-Shanghai collection.
Like Liu Wen, this Chinese beauty is goofy and endearing IRL and often entertains her Instagram followers (@feifeisun) with dorky Snapchat videos, edgy-chic street style shots, and makeup-free photos as she explores different cities on the job.

5. Doutzen Kroes - Angel with Devilish Curves
The Dutch ex-Victoria's Secret model (@doutzen) has always wowed the audience when she flaunted her curves on the VS runway. But even though the L'Oreal brand ambassador and mother-of-two has a perfectly toned figure and gorgeous tresses to boot (#hairenvy over those beachy waves), she also espouses that beauty is only skin-deep. In an April 2014 interview, she shared that she once told her daughter, "Instead of saying, 'You're so beautiful,' I'll say, 'You're smart,' so she'll have different aspirations in life than beauty and modeling. Though I love my job, I'm not changing the world. I'd love for her to study and to have different aspirations. We need to teach girls they can become presidents, and it's not about beauty all the time."
Supporting body positivity and girl power? Now that's a model we can all root for.
