8 Chic Ways to Update Your Blazer

If there is one wardrobe staple you can depend on to look instantly polished and put together, it's the blazer. Versatile enough for daytime meetings and evening dates, the blazer is a multi-purpose item that you won't really have cause to retire.

From pairing it with girly flare dresses to throwing it over a t-shirt and jeans combo, there are countless ways you can wear your blazer. Check out these outfit ideas and have fun experimenting!

1. Anchor a Slouchy Look

Be it a romper or matching separates, a coordinated ensemble can sometimes feel a bit much. A blazer can help to break the matchy matchy situation. Pick one in complementary colour as your outfit, or a contrasting hue to let it pop.

2. Do Modern Colour Blocking

This season, reinterpret the colour block trend by wearing two separates of the same hue on top and a contrasting (if you're bold enough) or complementary (if you're playing safe) colour at the bottom. A chambray blazer on top of a blue silk top and white flared trousers take you from the street to the office.

3. Dress Up a Short Short

A blazer worn with a short pair of shorts can elongate your legs by adding bulk to the upper half of your body and making the bottom half appear slimmer and longer). Plus, it provides some cover-up. Take note, however, to not let the hemline of your blazer go beyond than that of your shorts, unless you are going for the no-pants look.

4. Summer-fy Your Look With Florals

Leave your darker-hued fall/winter blazers for the chillier months. For spring/summer, it's all about the timeless trend: florals. Contrary to popular belief, prints can look office-appropriate. If your work environment is a bit more buttoned-up, consider wearing a fun - but not too crazy - print to work. Wear it buttoned up all the way under a crisp suit for a more conservative, polished look.

5. Spruce Up a Lazy Outfit

For days when you don't feel like dressing up, having a loud, printed blazer is incredibly helpful. Throw it on over a simple t-shirt and boyfriend jeans ensemble, or a chambray romper, and witness your outfit become so much more in a snap!

6. Work a Body-Con Dress for the Office

To make body-hugging dresses work for the office, wear a structured blazer over them. Cropped blazers help to create the illusion of a pencil skirt, but for a little more coverage, pair your dress with a blazer that extends to the widest part of your hips.

7. Layer Up

The warmer months call for lighter clothing, but you probably still feel the need for some cover-up over the semi-sheer blouse you're wearing. A kimono-ish blazer looks simultaneously lends structure and flow to your look.

8. Polish Up a Bustier

A bustier makes a great look for hot evening date. But if you are hesitant to wear a bustier or tube top without some form of coverage, make a sexy but classy statement by throwing a blazer over it. Pair with a high-waist pencil skirt or flared trousers for a grownup, feminine touch.
