Canadian luminaries fête homegrown treasures at acclaimed annual showcase
TORONTO, Canada (May 5, 2016) – During a dazzling evening at Toronto’s One King West, Canadian fashion VIPs gathered for TFI New Labels® 2016. Dressed-to-the-nines guests looked on as emerging designers Angelene Fenuta for ANGELËNE, Defne Husrevoglu for GUN CONTROL, Karen Quirion for KQK and Peggy Sue Deaven-Smiltnieks for Peggy Sue Collections showcased their exquisite runway collections. Three hundred guests – including fashion media, buyers, celebrities and industry veterans – revelled in the style spectacle as Peggy Sue Collections was awarded Most Promising New Label, as presented bySuzanne Rogers.
Peggy Sue Deaven-Smiltnieks showcased her show-stopping collection, alongside fellow finalists, with modelsbedecked in luxurious farm-to-fashion fabrics. Ultimately, Peggy Sue’s intricate designs and sustainable business ethos captivated the eminent panel of judges, which included illustrious designer David Dixon, Suzanne Rogers, Hudson’s Bay and Lord & Taylor Senior Vice President Suzanne Timmins, and Editor-in-Chief of FLARE Cameron Williamson.

“Winning the Most Promising New Label has floored me! The adrenaline rush from presenting to a captivated audience and the amazing judging panel was overwhelming. Not only that, I’m honoured to share the stage with such talented designers,” said Peggy Sue Deaven-Smiltnieks of her win. “TFI’s mentorship is beyond words. With their help, I can’t wait to continue building my dream.”

The Prize
As the winning designer, Peggy Sue Deaven-Smiltnieks receives a $25,000 cash prize for Most Promising New Label donated by Suzanne Rogers, and will also receive invaluable brand awareness through an upcoming full-page feature in Canada’s top fashion magazine, FLARE.

With the support of our tightly knit fashion community, we’re able to provide a platform for fresh talent. Each finalist represents a fiery creative spirit vying for their show stopping moment and TFI New Labels® 2016 showcases fashion’s future superstars to a riveted audience.”
The Celebration
One of the most hotly anticipated fashion events of the year, TFI New Labels® 2016 was emceed by media darling Glen Baxter and included a pre-show reception hosted by Wines of Portugal. The illustrious TFI New Labels® fashion show competition featured event-exclusive looks by Salon Daniel, L'Oréal Professionnel and M.A.C, before the award presentation. Notable supporters of Canadian fashion and industry VIPs were in attendance, including philanthropist Simona Shnaider, eNews! anchor Chloe Wilde, event sponsors Sylvia Mantella from Mantella Corporation, Colgate Optic White, Toronto Premium Outlets and Hudson's Bay Company.

TFI New Labels® is an annual fundraiser in support of the non-profit Toronto Fashion Incubator, which is dedicated to nurturing Canadian fashion designers and entrepreneurs.

THE POST-SHOW CELEBRATION
Canadian fashion lovers are invited to attend a post-show reception and celebration on Saturday, May 14 at Toronto Premium Outlets, 13850 Steeles Avenue West, Halton Hills, ON. Open to the public, the event will include a meet-and-greet with the four national TFI New Labels® designer finalists and a display of selected runway looks.
