6 Ways to Look Good Without Makeup

The mad rush out the door in the morning often leaves us scrambling to perfect our makeup along the way or skipping breakfast.

But instead of skipping steps in your daily grooming, there is a way to walk out the door without makeup - or at least confidently. For that perfect barefaced glow, all you need are some quality skincare products and you can not only save on foundation, concealer, and blusher, you might even save some time to whip up a healthy breakfast before work!

Here are some ways to get flawless skin:

1. Protect Your Skin

Even when the weather forecast says it's going to be a cloudy or rainy day, don't skip the sunscreen! Slather it on as per normal before heading out, because UV rays can still penetrate through the clouds and affect your skin. Many women may splurge on expensive skincare products or cosmetic procedures to reverse the effects of skin aging, but what's really aging their skin is UV rays. Sun exposure without proper and adequate protection can result in premature wrinkles and skin pigmentation, two of the main things we use makeup to conceal.

So daily skin protection is the key to real anti-aging magic. Studies have even proven that when you stop exposing your skin to harmful UV rays, you are actually allowing it to repair itself. To ensure that your complexion is well protected, opt for a moisturiser that does double duty with an SPF of at least 30.

2. Choose the Right Moisturiser

Women with dry skin know understand that moisturiser is essential. But some women with oily skin may make the mistake of skipping it altogether. Oily skin doesn't mean well-hydrated skin. Skin requires both oil and water to stay healthy. Using the right moisturiser will cause your skin to produce more oil to compensate for being dehydrated.

Here's how you find the right moisturiser for your skin type and prevent dull-looking or overly shiny skin: apply the moisturiser on your face and wait for five minutes. If you can still feel it after five minutes, it is too heavy for your skin.

Women with dry skin should look for ingredients that help to prevent water loss in the skin and repair the moisture barrier in the skin. These include jojoba oil, ceramides, and sweet almond oil. Women with oily, acne-prone skin should go for moisturisers that contain sodium hyaluronate and cucumber fruit extract.

3. Boost Skin with Citrus

On top of eating antioxidant- and vitamin-rich foods that help to boost skin health, begin the day with a glass of hot water with lemon to flush out toxins in the body and purify the body internally, thereby reducing the chance of skin sensitivity and inflammation.

It takes about 30 minutes for Vitamin C to dissolve in your system and get activated. So having some Vitamin C about half an hour before working out helps to minimise the production of free radicals, which increases due to higher oxygen consumption during exercise. This means full Vitamin C protection for your body cells while exercising, so your workout benefits both your body and your complexion.

4. Tone It Up

Applying toner after cleansing helps to balance your skin's pH level, allowing products to be absorbed better and leading to a more even complexion. Toners are vital for eliminating the drying minerals found in tap water, including chlorine.

Look for toners labeled alcohol free, as alcohol-based toners will strip the skin of water and result in the buildup of dead skin cells that cause dull-looking skin.

5. Boost Skin Circulation

Without proper blood circulation, skin can look dull and tired. To boost a lackluster complexion, choose stimulating ingredients such as rosemary, mint, and ginseng. These ingredients dilate the blood vessels when applied topically to the skin, thus allowing the skin to receive more nutrient-rich blood.

6. Add a Scrub

When skin is dry, the dead skin cells on the surface are opaque and don't reflect light, leading to dull-looking skin. Hence, a good exfoliation session helps to renew dead skin and bring out your natural, glowing skin.

To reveal dewy fresh skin, rub a gentle facial scrub onto the skin for about 45 seconds before rinsing. Then, apply an alcohol-free toner, antioxidant serum, and SPF moisturiser after. Do this twice to thrice weekly for brighter, softer skin!
