BERLIN, GERMANY - 166 international labels across two hall levels: the Greenshowroom and Ethical Fashion Show Berlin start the winter season with new record participation levels. Particularly pleasing is the response to the Greenshowroom, whose range of high fashion is larger than ever. From 19 to 21 January 2016, the trade fair duo in the Postbahnhof will serve as the central platform for eco fashion during Berlin Fashion Week. A comprehensive event programme with fashion shows, discussion sessions, presentations, guided tours and an outdoor showcase complement the offer in the Postbahnhof. The organiser of the trade fair duo is Messe Frankfurt.

‘The popularity of this event in the high fashion segment sends us a particularly strong signal. Established premium manufacturers and some very interesting newcomers are on board. In the street and casualwear segments, we also have new exhibitors in the form of well-known international labels who will give our event an additional boost’, says Olaf Schmidt, Vice President Textiles & Textile Technologies at Messe Frankfurt. ‘The portfolio also has a very international slant: around 50 per cent of the labels come from abroad, including bigger groups from the United Kingdom, the Netherlands and Scandinavia. Labels from a total of 19 countries are represented.“

Greenshowroom
refined materials and traditional craftsmanship

Greenshowroom welcomes 39 high fashion labels for the winter season. The high-quality finishing of fine materials coupled with traditional craftsmanship and tailoring is on trend, from couture to tailoring and from fine natural fibres to handicraft. The sporty elegant fashion by Studio Elsien Gringhuis is angular and sharp and reduced to the essentials. The new collections by Carpasus, Deepmello, Johanna Riplinger, SomySo and Studio Jux should be awaited with excitement. There is also a wide range of shoes on offer: with its elegant pumps, the Hamburg label Alina Schürfeld ensures that any evening outfit will look amazing. And Nine to Five presents classic Chelsea boots, ankle boots and bags.

Ethical Fashion Show Berlin
1970s and 1990s, recycling and up cycling

Casual styles for men with 1970s and 1990s influences are on the agenda for street and casualwear – as are innovative recycling and upcycling concepts. One of the top international newcomers includes KnowledgeCotton Apparel. The Danes present sporty-chic outerwear for men: bomber jackets, sports jackets, windbreakers and coats in classic colours. LangerChen, another newcomer, presents both cool parkas and boxy short jackets in a military style. Also new are Monkee Genes, who present their new jeans range. Additional highlights include the collections by El Naturalista, John W. Shoes, Komodo, Lanius, L’Herbe Rouge, PeopleTree and Recolution.

Opening with Ursula Karven

At the official opening, Olaf Schmidt will welcome a celebrity honorary guest, the actress Ursula Karven. As a brand ambassador for the new yoga and relaxation collection by PeopleWearOrganic, she is a self-confessed fan of natural textiles and will give insights into her lifestyle. A fringe programme with an initial highlight awaits visitors directly after: “Eco-Fashion on the floor: how conventional fashion retailers can integrate it into their product ranges” is the title of a podium discussion where representatives from conventional retail will tackle the basic questions raised by the industry.

“Salonshow”
contemporary high fashion of the best quality

With the “Salonshow”, which takes place on the afternoon of the first day of the trade fair, 19 January at 3 p.m., an official offside event of the Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Berlin will take place: top guests from the worlds of fashion, business, politics, film and television are expected to attend the catwalk show in the Postbahnhof Club. Selected designers will present their new collections and showcase more than 70 new looks – a cross-section of contemporary high fashion of the best quality. Outfits by Altai Cashmere, Austriandesign.at, Ayurganic, Blue Sky Cashmere, Bodios Yak & Cashmere, Carpasus, Elementum by Daniela Pais, Esmod Berlin, Gobi Organic by Sarazul Cashmere, Inti Ferreira, JM Jinst Murun, Kate, Lanius, Mongol Textile, Somyso, Studio Elsien Gringhuis, Studio Jux, Uujin, WalkBoxx/SilkBoxx, Xess + Baba and Zora Heinicke will be on the catwalk.

“Ethical Fashion on Stage”
presents around 50 looks

Part two of the show programme will follow at 5 p.m.: with “Ethical Fashion on Stage”, invited guests can look forward to an inspiring catwalk show. Around 50 street and casual outfits by international exhibitors at the Ethical Fashion Show Berlin will be presented, including the exhibitors Daily's Nothings Better, De´qua, Diamond Army, Early Fish, Feuervogl, Format, Get Lazy, Göttin des Glücks, Inheels, L´Herbe Rouge, Mud Jeans, Myomy Do Goods, Myssyfarmi, Päälä, Reet Aus, Rewrap, Tranquillo, Tuschimo, Vintage for a Cause and Zuckerkrawatte.

Top theme: circular economy

Pioneers, start-ups and big players in the fashion industry are currently working on new concepts that make it possible to manufacture yarns, materials and products in a continuous circle. This is reason enough for the green trade fair duo to make circular economy a top theme. A new outdoor area at the Ethical Fashion Show Berlin will focus on this issue and present examples of high-quality recycling. Well-known and up-and-coming outdoor brands will showcase their approaches to chemically or mechanically recycled raw materials that achieve a new standard of quality thanks to innovative technologies. These include Bleed, Ecoalf, Navarpluma (Neokdun), Paramo, Patagonia, Primaloft and Pyua. The podium discussion as part of the “Create Green Breakfasts” on Thursday 21 January is also dedicated to the topic of circular economy. From 11 a.m. onwards, well-known fashion and sustainability experts will sit on the podium.

Joint ticket with other trade fairs

With their ticket for the trade fair duo, trade visitors and press representatives will also gain access to the Premium, Seek, Bright and Show&Order events taking place at the same time. The official Mercedes-Benz shuttle service will make the journey to the Postbahnhof and travelling to other hotspots of the Berlin Fashion Week easier.
