15 May 2015, Singapore – Star Creation: The Winners’ Collection Fashion Show debuts the first professional capsule collections from our 2014 winners – Hong Kong’s Rebecca Lam; South Korea’s Newman Han; and China’s Zhou Jun – to Asia’s vanguard of buyers, media and influencers at Singapore Fashion Week today.

The talented designers were voted winners of Singapore’s regional emerging fashion talent platform, Star Creation, last year. Under the helm of the Textile & Fashion Federation, Star Creation gave each of the three winners the chance to hone their skills and launch their careers under the guidance of Singapore’s major fashion player F J Benjamin. Following their Star Creation sponsored year-in-industry, they return to Singapore to launch their debut capsule collections.

“As an organisation, we recognise the talent in the fashion industry in Asia. We believe in providing Asia’s talents with the tools, skills and platform to launch themselves on the international stage. Star Creation is not only a great platform to seek out the amazing design talents in Asia; but also give these aspiring designers a kick-start in their career in fashion,“ said Lynette Lee, CEO of Textile & Fashion Federation Singapore.

Designed under the close mentorship of Douglas and Odile Benjamin, each designer will showcase a unique aesthetic.

“Working with these three individual talents has been both an inspiring and gratifying journey. The mentorship programme has been a two-way learning experience for both the designers, as well as our team. As we impart to them the inner workings of the fashion business, we have also been inspired by their creativity and passion. Having watched these designers refine and grow over the past year, we are extremely excited to see their vision come to life here in Singapore,” said Douglas Benjamin,  CEO, F J Benjamin.

Fashion Debut: The Winner’s 2015 Capsule Collections

From Hong Kong, Rebecca Corinne Lam combines her passion for abstract art and design to create standalone art pieces that aren’t just stunning but wearable. It’s a sensibility brought to life in her feminine collection ‘Support’, inspired by the outpouring of support she has felt in her own flourishing career.

With a talent for imbuing simple shapes with high-end luxury, Zhou Jun blends traditional country and hiking looks with active sportswear references to create a collection of pared back, expertly cut urban uniforms displaying his signature mastery of the structural form.

Pursuing a strong, masculine aesthetic, Newman Han has created a collection full of the excitement of pivotal emotions in our lives, aptly titled ‘Jump into the Sky’. Brought to life with oversized parachute silhouette’s, aviator styling and graphic insignia, Newman’s collection appeals to both men and women. From the wavy motions of an oversized parachute silhouette, strings, pleats, aviator clothing and graphic insignia each detail of the collection is associated with flying.

Star Creation was launched by the Textile & Fashion Federation (Singapore) five years ago to uncover Asian talents, present them with an opportunity to launch their fashion careers, and groom them to become tomorrow’s top fashion designers. Newman Han, Korea, Zhou Jun, China and Rebecca Corinne Lam each won S$10,000, a year’s internship with South-east Asia’s leading fashion and lifestyle group F J Benjamin and the opportunity to showcase a debut capsule collection at Singapore 2015.
