Going on a vacation but don't know what to pack? You would bring five pairs of shoes, but they just take up so much space. But really, all you need are a few chic essentials. Accessorise wisely, and go for items that go with all your outfits, and you might just nail every look on your vacation. Talk about having all the style but minus the hassle!

Here are some basic accessories that work for every destination and occasion. Take notes from these style stars!

1. Scarf

You can't go wrong with scarves. Not only do they work for every season (pick fabric and length according to climate), and serve as a blanket on the flight (particularly if they are oversized and cable knit), they are also a quick, easy way to update an outfit.

Look how Rosie Huntington-Whiteley's leopard-print scarf is a bold punch to the neutral palette of her outfit. Known for her chic and classy off-duty style, Rosie typically sticks to neutrals but goes for a streamlined silhouette. Steal her low-maintenance style with a few airport basics, structured handbag, boots, skinny jeans, scarf, and a cosy cardigan or blazer.

2. Hat

Rosie nails it again for the airport. The British model-turned-actress is equal parts cosy - in her calf-length cardigan and skinny jeans - and cool - with her sunglasses, wide-brim hat, and crimson handbag. Notice how she lets her accessories shake up her neutral outfit? Rosie definitely understands the power of a statement piece.

3. Flats

Sandals for your holiday? Heels? Boots? Go with a pair of versatile, multipurpose ballet flats. Flats work for a fancy dinner at a seaside restaurant, and are great for hitting the weekend flea market too. Korean pop star turned designer Jessica Jung looks breezy and chic in a pair of black-and-white ballet flats, skinny jeans and structured tweed jacket.

4. Sunglasses

How to look great even after a long-haul flight? Do as British pop singer Pixie Lott does, and pop on a quirky pair of sunglasses to hide eye bags and tired eyes. Those sunnies will come into handy again on your actual vacation, while you're lounging by the beach or pool. Also, how cute is Pixie's outfit!

5. Purse

Who needs to lug around a huge tote bag for sightseeing? A cute little cross-body purse or satchel will do just fine to store your essentials while bumping up your style points. Instead of wearing top or dress in a bold hue, a neon satchel like Australian model Miranda Kerr work just as well to inject some mood-lifting colour. It's best to keep the rest of your outfit neutral, but if you're feeling playful and bold, go for a fun print for double the effect!
