BERLIN - As on previous occasions, Berlin were at the centre of the international green fashion scene. This was now the sixth time that the Ethical Fashion Show Berlin was presenting trend-setting eco-brands at the ewerk at Berlin-Mitte. From 8 to 10 July 2014 progressive casual and streetwear labels were showcasing their sustainable fashion designs. As before, the tradeshow was fully booked. A number of new international exhibitors had been added to this year's summer event. The dominant themes were denim, footwear and upcycling.
"More and more international labels are beginning to understand that our fashion platform is a great opportunity to present themselves on the European market. This particularly concerns the areas of streetwear and denim where we are looking forward to some exciting new exhibitors with first-class ideas and designs," said Olaf Schmidt, Vice President Textiles & Textile Technologies at Messe Frankfurt. After Germany, the most strongly represented exhibitors' nations were Spain, the Netherlands, Italy and France. Running alongside the Greenshowroom, which was held at the Hotel Adlon Kempinski with the emphasis on sustainable high fashion, the Ethical Fashion Show Berlin had 123 exhibitors, so that it was Europe's biggest platform for ecologically produced fair trade fashion during the Berlin Fashion Week. Both events were organised by Messe Frankfurt.

Fashion with substance: quality, responsibility and solutions
There are two factors that have become a well established feature at the Ethical Fashion Show Berlin for any of the exhibiting designers: environmental care and ethical responsibility. "Interest in the perception of responsibility within the global supply chains has reached the very centre of society. The current discussion on quality shows the highly topical character of this issue in the textile industry. Our exhibitors have proved that forward-looking solutions have already reached a good level of cost effectiveness and that they can be implemented even without regulations and acts of law," says Schmidt.
