TORONTO - Highlights of the second day of World MasterCard® Fashion Week included architectural pieces by Sid Neigum, white minimalism by JNBY, and exotic prints & patterns by Mélissa Nepton (our favourite show so far).

Other designers who presented their SS 2014 collections at David Pecaut Square yesterday included Laura Siegel, TATSUAKI, and TRAVIS TADDEO. Enjoy the pictures and stay tuned for more fashion news from Toronto!

Montreal-based designer Mélissa Nepton's Spring/Summer 2014 ready-to‐wear collection entitled Pikuseru, which means “pixel” in Japanese, was influenced by both the culture and the fashion currents stemming from Japan. Beautiful collection - fresh and inspiring!

ABOUT THE DESIGNER

Montreal designer Mélissa Nepton specializes in modern, ready-to-wear couture that targets the urban career woman. Hers is a vision that reflects both her personality and view of fashion: “For me, fashion is a vigorous expression that impacts women’s lives in a positive way. And in return, women bring to fashion a sense of sensuality, fluidity and femininity. It’s a communication rooted in comfort, practicality and confidence.”

She completed her prep school years attending the renowned fashion program at Marie-Victorin College before entering Montreal’s L’École supérieure de mode. Mélissa’s talent was already noticeable and attracted her teachers support, encouraging her to pursue studies abroad. This called to Mélissa’s sense of adventure, and she set sail for Paris to complete her academic education at L’École Nationale supérieure des Arts Décoratifs de Paris—a formative year where she presented her first runway show.

Sid Neigum

Toronto-based designer Sid Neigum celebrates his sixth season with World MasterCard Fashion Week. For his Spring/Summer 2014 collection, Neigum explored themes of architecture through laser and form. All designs were accompanied by unique and edgy footwear.

ABOUT THE DESIGNER

Born in Alberta, trained in New York, and based in Toronto, Sid holds stockists in New York, L.A, Hong Kong, Seoul, and Toronto. Sid was the recipient of the Toronto Fashion Incubator's New Labels Award in 2012 and in the past year has had the pleasure to dress Azari and III and Boys Noize.

For her Spring/Summer 2014 collection Laura Siegel’s created a women's ready-to-wear collection, designed through collaborations with global artisans to promote and sustain culture through craft.

ABOUT THE DESIGNER

Laura Siegel is an award-winning fashion designer based in New York and Toronto. Her ethically handcrafted, easy to wear textured pieces are designed in collaboration with artisans in Asia and Latin America.

After receiving her formal design education at Parson’s School of Design in New York City and London’s Central Saint Martins’, Siegel honed her skills in silver-smithing, knitting, natural dyeing, embroidery and accessory design with top industry professionals and skilled artisans. Her work has taken her to all corners of the globe, enabling the young designer to work for and collaborate with international designers such as Megan Park, Life with Bird, Yigal Azrouel, Luca Luca, and Arthur Mendonca. Siegel’s travels and insights into diverse design processes and unique production methods have shaped her ethically handcrafted collection while enabling artisans in third world countries to preserve their cultures and crafts.

Laura's easy-to-wear textured pieces are aimed at women looking for comfort in their day-to-day wardrobe while continuing to seek quality and one-of-a-kind designs.

TATSUAKI

The TATSUAKI Spring/Summer 2014 collection is youthful yet still retains a sense of elegance, focusing on creating clothes that are both unique and wearable, with a feminine and effortless beauty about them.

ABOUT THE DESIGNER

The TATSUAKI collection draws its inspiration from the eclectic culture of its designer Dan TATSUAKI Liu. As a Canadian designer with Japanese and Chinese backgrounds, Dan describes his designs as infused with rich cultural heritage with a modern twist. Inspired by his Japanese name, the collection is youthful yet still retains a sense of elegance, with a focuses on creating clothes that are both unique and wearable, with a feminine, effortless beauty about them. He has received numerous awards for his achievements and contribution to the Japanese and Canadian fashion scene. Dan continues to receive praise including being named one of seven icons of Canadian Fashion in 2008, winning the Fashion Designer Award for Tokyo Fashion Festival in Japan and in 2012 he became the first Asian Canadian Designer to launch his collection at the Hudson’s Bay Company in Canada in the 21st century.

JNBY

International Chinese fashion pioneer, JNBY presented their Spring/Summer 2014 ready-to-wear collection inspired by the bold and three dimensional aspects of architecture. The collection also has a hint of soft embroidery and silky textures referencing the impacting of time on various textiles.

ABOUT THE DESIGNER

Li Lin is the creative director and core founder of JNBY, one of the pioneering design-driven womenswear brands from China. Established in Hangzhou in 1994, JNBY’s collections draw cross-cultural inspiration from art and architecture while being accented by innovative production techniques. Today the company has grown to four diverse brands - JNBY, jnby by JNBY, Croquis and LESS. JNBY employs more than 200 dealers across China, and operates more than 700 retail stores nationwide, as well as concept stores in Japan, France, UK, Russia, Singapore, Canada, Thailand, Croatia, Spain, Korea and Brazil.

TRAVIS TADDEO

Montreal-based designer Travis Taddeo’s Spring/Summer 2014 collection, entitled Matinée, was inspired by the easygoing grace and vitality of a new morning and captivates with forward-thinking designs for men and women, in line with the urban, edgy and minimalist aesthetic the designer is known for.

ABOUT THE DESIGNER

Travis Taddeo launched his eponymous line in 2008 after graduating in fashion design from LaSalle College. Travis Taddeo has gained a loyal following among fashion risk-takers by pushing and overcoming the conventional expectations established for Canadian fashion design. Known for his combination of minimal lines and distinctive blends of silk, jersey, leather and fur, Taddeo offers simplicity with edge by creating a bold marriage between luxury and street wear.
