The opening reception of the conference, on August 13, 2013, will include a talk by Marvin Taylor of the Fales Library & Special Collections at NYU.

Since 1994, Marvin J. Taylor has been documenting New York City's downtown arts scenes that developed in SoHo and the East Village. Postmodern dance, punk rock, and performance art are just a few of the innovations and transgressions that abounded downtown, giving rise to new modes of institutional critique and have left not only academia and the art world transformed, but also popular culture and our daily lives. Taylor will present an overview of the collection, highlighting the trends and themes that concerned artists in the early post-conceptual days of the 1970s through the decimation of the scene in the early 1990s by the AIDS crisis.

  • Gospel Stage Play Organized by Rose Baby Enterprises
  • When: August 24, 2013 at 5:00 PM (Multiple Dates Available)
  • Where: The Dempsey Theater, 127 W. 127th Street, (Between Lenox & Seventh Avenues), New York, NY

YOU CAN TELL THE DEVIL THAT I'M BACK is a gospel stage play that you don't want to miss. The actors are phenomenal, the singers are exceptional and the message of deliverance rings loud and clear!

This play will take you on an emotional roller coaster...ups, downs, smiles, tears...but the ride ends with a praise! All aboard!

We do not walk away from God suddenly. It is a process where little by little we allow sin to separate us from the love of God. Revelation 2:4 says it best when it states “Nevertheless I have somewhat against thee, because thou hast left thy first love.” What do you do when you finally realize that you are not as close to God as you once were? How do you rekindle the fire that you and God once shared? And once you are safely nestled back in God's arms, what is your message for the Devil?

It is at this point that we proclaim loud and clear for all you hear "You can tell the devil that I'm back!" I'm back on the Lord's side to reclaim my destiny and God's perfect will for me. I'm back at my job of winning souls for Jesus Christ. And while I will never be perfect I am back on the track for becoming more like Jesus. Come one, come All! We will see you soon, until then be blessed! (Lisa Evans-Graham, Writer, Director, Producer)

Deborah Jackson, Kelly Hooey, Veronila Sonsev - Founders, Women Innovate Mobile

Women Innovate Mobile (WIM) is the first startup accelerator to focus its investment strategy on mobile-first female led startup ventures. Female founded startups typically receive less VC funding – and we see that as an investment opportunity. It is also our deep belief that more women entrepreneurs in tech creates a richer and more diverse innovation ecosystem.

WIM is a mentorship-driven accelerator. Startups accelerate their growth through seed funding, business support (office space, product development and design support, mobile-marketing promotions), and access to our network of mentors, funders and advisors. In exchange for our investment and services, WIM receives an equity stake in each company.

  • Organized by B.B. King Blues Club
  • When: August 26, 2013 at 8:00 PM

RAY CHARLES / Los Angeles, CA 1985 (Courtey of Norman Seeff Photography)

FOREVER RAY perform the exciting and uplifting music of Ray Charles, which include a wonderful blend of musical styles which range from Jazz and Blues, to Country and R&B.

The band features a stellar line-up of musicians whose performing credits include: Ben E. King, Michael McDonald, Stevie Wonder, Patti LaBelle, George Clinton, Prince, Liza Minnelli, Jimmy Vivino, Rod Stewart, Celia Cruz, Aretha Franklin, Tito Puente, The O'Jays, Donna Summers, Temptations, Four Tops, Alicia Keys, Christina Aguilera, Frank Sinatra, Lionel Hampton + Vocalist Angela Workman was a Raelette in Ray Charles' band.

From country to blues to jazz to R&B and even funk, Ray Charles set the aesthetic standard for more than five decades, earning plaudits across the globe and setting standards that his legion of fans, in and out of the entertainment industry, aspire to. More often than not he wasn't called by his name - or even his longtime nickname "Brother Ray"---his is simply "The Genius."

Few artists can claim to have had such a wide ranging impact on the music we love, and even fewer have altered the course of so many musical streams - from his soul-jazz combos to his crucial R&B bands, to his landmark country music recordings, "Modern Sounds in Country Music." Only modesty kept him from saying the obvious - that his name sits at the top of the soul singers list.

Girls Raising is a monthly pitch competition to help women founded startups get publicity, network with like-minded entrepreneurs and current founders and meet influential women that can move their businesses forward. This is a small private event with a limited number of tickets in order to maintain a productive networking atmosphere.

Girls Raising is also a movement. We want to help female founded companies get their seed round of funding. The GOAL of our monthly event is to give startups exposure to an engaged community, connections to past and current founders and VC’s as well as targeted advice. It’s an opportunity for guests to preview some of the great companies being built by women and to hear from some of the most successful and influential women of our time. It’s a casual and cost effective forum for us to all come together in support of building stronger well funded female founded companies. Money matters and we want more women founded companies to see great success by helping them through some of the most difficult times in a startups lifecycle. It's a great time to be a woman. Men are invited to!!
