SINGAPORE – Casio Computer Co Ltd opened the first G-Shock concept store in Asia at Plaza Singapura on Wednesday, 28 November 2012. The concept store, aptly named “G-SHOCK”, differs from other Casio G-Factory stores, as it is dedicated to house only watches under the namesake brand and its sister brand, Baby-G.

To mark the momentous occasion, two limited edition G-Shock watches, released in collaboration with AOS, a 6-man DJ/emcee collective comprising three of The Butter Factory Resident DJs Andrew T, Dave Does & Stanley and three international talents T.T, Hapa & N'fa, and The Killer Gerbil, alter ego of local visual artist Luthfi Mustafah, were launched.

To introduce the 1st and only G-Shock concept store in the region, both the Managing Director of Casio Singapore Pte Ltd, Mr Watanabe Shunichi, and General Manager of Casio Singapore Timepiece Division, Mr Sezai Hiroyuki, took the stage to share insights on the motivation and ideas behind the new store and its purposeful design, meant to reflect the G-Shock and Baby-G brand identity to give shoppers an immersive experience at the store.

The level of excitement at the event was raised when the two collaborative G-Shock models were unveiled by AOS and The Killer Gerbil themselves, with much applause from the crowd. After the watch designs were revealed, DJ Stanley, representing AOS, and The Killer Gerbil also shed light on the inspiration and symbolism of their respective designs.

Representing AOS at the opening, DJs Andrew T, Stanley and Dave Does took centrestage with their individual performances on the turntables, accompanied by ad-lib rapping from emcee Sheikh Haikel, turning up the heat at the store. Dave Does wrapped up the trio’s performance by raising the decibels at the celebration, to the delight of guests and other shoppers.

Working to the resonating beats from Dave Does, The Killer Gerbil also sprayed on the finishing touches to two barrels that featured his iconic Killer Gerbil character and set “Casio G-Shock” in his signature graffiti font.

To officiate the opening, Mr Watanabe, Mr Sezai, Andrew T and The Killer Gerbil then took the honours in a ribbon cutting ceremony that marked the official opening of the 1st G-Shock concept store in Asia.

Rounding up the event was an upbeat, street-style fashion show with six models showcasing 12 outfits from local streetwear label, Flesh Imp, and its sister brand, FEMMEX, accessorised with a variety of the latest and coolest G-Shock and Baby-G watches that displayed a variety of themes such as “Toughness” and “Sporty”, as well as limited edition watches launched in conjunction with G-Shock’s 30th Anniversary.
