Sarmistha
Occupation: Fashion Illustrator
Country: India

FASHION STUDIO: How did you get interested in fashion illustration?

SARMISTHA: Fashion and Art has always been my favorite topics of discussion and Fashion Illustration is the best way to combine the two.

I have been drawing fashion since I was a little girl. At first it was my school notebooks that bore the burnt of my creative outflow where I would draw pretty girls dressed in stylish clothes. Those were some of my initial fashion illustrations much before I exactly knew what it meant. I guess I took the decision to study fashion at a very young age.

I love to create any kind of illustrations. But Fashion Illustration has been an integral part of my fashion design course and I have extensively used illustration for all my design projects/jobs. Finally in March 2012, I started an illustration blog to showcase my creative work

FASHION STUDIO: What is your fashion background?

SARMISTHA: I am a Fashion Designer by profession and completed my degree in Fashion Design in 2005. Since then, I have been working as designer - designing apparels, prints, graphics and illustrations for many organisations and private clients both full time and as a freelancer.

FASHION STUDIO: Who is your favorite designer?

SARMISTHA: My list of favorite designers is huge and its difficult to pick just one or two. I love the collections of Oscar de la Renta, Alberta Ferretti, Karl Lagerfeld , Burberry, Salvatore Ferragamo, Dior, Dolce and Gabbana and Emilio Pucci to name a few.

I team designer wear with high street brands like Mango and Forever New to create looks of my own.

FASHION STUDIO: How would you describe your personal style?

SARMISTHA: If I have to describe my personal style in one word it has to be 'versatile'. My way of dressing changes according to the occasion, the weather and of course my mood. At times I would put on a classic black two piece suit and at other times it would be a bohemian maxi dress with beaded jewelleries.

I love to mix and match - classic pieces with experiental ones, an androgynous blazer with a lacy blouse or a basic outfit with a statement accessory.

This versatility finds its way into my work as well with my fashion illustations ranging from multitudes of colors to prints to basic black and whites.

FASHION STUDIO: Which trends for the next season would you recommend?

SARMISTHA: The big things that I would recommend for Spring-Summer 2013 are:

- Eighties inspired styles
- Shimmer and shine - both on fabrics and as surface embellishment
- Bold colors and prints
- Pencil Skirts

FASHION STUDIO: What would you like to achieve in the fashion industry?

SARMISTHA: I love fashion and illustration and I would love to continue creating new styles, designing new clothes and drawing new illustrations everyday.

At a more professional level, I would love to be able to work for some of big fashion houses, would love to see my illustrations published in some of the big fashion publications... so on and so forth!

FASHION STUDIO: Thank you. We hope you will achieve all your goals soon!
