BANGKOK, THAILAND - Frederick Lee, a Singaporean designer known for his sophisticated and extravagant fashion shows, presented modern ethnic pieces combined with exotic accessories at International Couture Fashion Week 2012. The collection was inspired by African and Asian ethnic clothes, mainly from Kenya, Burma, and Northern India.

These gowns can be for ordinary people but for special occasions. As a fashion designer, you have to be a very good storyteller, you can be whimsical or you can be dramatic. It’s all about entertainment to me.” - commented the designer in an interview before the show.

Frederick Lee presented a glamorous and futuristic vision and once again proved his status as one of the most talented Singaporean fashion designers.

The idea for the 2012 couture collection took root thousands of miles from the ethnic and tribal influences of Northern India, Kenya and Burma. To the designer, tribal or ethnic clothes reflect creativity and diversity. This global fusion fashion collection juxtaposes Oriental, Asian and African inspiration to form a modern ethnic look combined with exotic accessories.

The collection is a display of new trends, authentic, indulgences and unique craftsmanship that show off modern twists and avant-garde detail in design that reflects the designer’s belief in individuality and diversity and the ability to create, to ignore conventions and to do away with the rituals of seasonal demands.

To hand-executed techniques, Frederick Lee adds his signature of feather creations The collection is rich with extraordinarily elaborate ornamentation, hand-curled feathers, plumes densely embroidered, bodice beaded cascades of ostrich feathers, formfitting cutaway jacket sleeves made entirely of eighteen different types of exotic feathers, saddles and plumes in every colour imaginable, every shape and every size. They are aerodynamic marvels of perfection.
