BERLIN, 20 January 2012 - “Watch for pureness and appreciate the beauty of life,” is Chinese designer Wang Yutao’s succinct summary of the philosophy that underpins his label Beautyberry. In conjunction with ELLE magazine, Mercedes-Benz unveiled the latest collection from the rising star of the Middle Kingdom in the event venue on Straße des 17. Juni. It was the first show by a Chinese designer at Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Berlin and there was an air of eager anticipation. Among the numerous celebrities in attendance was Boris Becker with his son Noah, who attended Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Berlin almost every season and for example Bettina Zimmermann, Natalia Avelon, Nadeshda Brennicke, Nazan Eckes, Nova Meierhenrich, Mo Asumang as well as Marion Kracht.

And there was a special surprise in store for Boris Becker, who paid the designer a visit backstage just before the show. After a brief perusal of the collection, Wang Yutao asked Boris Becker to choose one of his scarves. A selection was swiftly made and the tennis legend took a seat in the first row with his new Beautyberry accessory.

Flowing silhouettes, a play with matt and shiny surfaces and sophisticated cuts were again to the fore in Wang Yutao’s designs for the coming winter season. Like his previous collection, the Autumn/Winter 2012 Beautyberry Collection derives inspiration from British style and is built around soft wool materials, knitwear and leather in earthy tones, with lots of warm brown. Men’s Jackets, coats and leather jackets are embellished with luxuriant fur collars while trousers and pullovers boast extravagant lengths and cuts. For example, Wang Yutao combines calf-length wool trousers with oversize knitwear and waist belts.

The womenswear collection is classic, elegant and feminine. Especially eye-catching are a suit with a floor-length, narrow skirt and a long tailored jacket with extra-wide trumpet sleeves in soft loden wool and a gently flowing evening dress in a shimmering silk fabric with sophisticated slit chiffon sleeves.

Beautyberry stands for puristic and unaffected lifestyle but is nevertheless characterised by emotion and luxury. Wang Yutao connects his high-quality traditional cuts with modern materials and laid-back casualness with exclusive elegance, and is now regarded as one of the hottest up-and-coming fashion creators in China. In 2011 he won the Mercedes-Benz China Young Fashion Award in Beijing. In an exclusive interview with ELLE magazine, Wang Yutao said: “I am very grateful to Mercedes-Benz and ELLE for providing me with this fantastic platform, as part of their fashion engagement, to share my design concept with friends in Germany while at the same time expanding my horizons.”
Mercedes-Benz can again look back on a successful title sponsorship following the conclusion of the tenth season of Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Berlin. A host of journalists, opinion leaders and stars gathered in the German capital, where they were captivated by the Autumn/Winter 2012 collection shows staged in the event venue on Straße des 17. Juni by a range of interesting and established labels.

And the wonderful thing is that after Fashion Week is before the next Fashion Week. Mercedes-Benz is already looking forward to the Spring/Summer 2013 season, when hopefully the weather will be beautiful and everyone will be basking in the sunshine.
